About Us

As a family-owned and operated business, we enjoy working with a wide range of customers–from homeowners and hobbyists, to craftsmen and contractors, to designers and architects, and commercial clients managing larger or recurring projects. We provide our customers with quality, consistency and courteous service that reflects our genuine enjoyment of both what we do, and the people we serve.

Whether you’re selecting a rustic fireplace mantel, sourcing unique reclaimed beams for a commercial space, or coordinating materials for a multi-phase build, we take the time to understand your goals and help you choose the right reclaimed wood. We pride ourselves on fair, transparent pricing and hands-on support at every stage of the process.

We work directly with Midwestern barn salvage crews–no middlemen and no inflated pricing. This direct sourcing allows us to offer high-quality, heritage barn wood with character, durability, and history that can’t be replicated by big-box lumber or newly milled hardwoods.

Importantly, this supports rural communities and reduces environmental impacts. We invite you to visit our Paso Robles yard and see why American Barnwood is a trusted choice for both custom homes and professional projects throughout the Central Coast.

Sincerely,

P.S. We are honored to carry forward the legacy built by John and Kira Olshefski, whose vision helped establish American Barn and Wood as a trusted resource on the Central Coast. We’re grateful for the foundation they created and look forward to continuing that tradition for years to come.

Resurrect a Barn Frame

Occasionally, we encounter historic barns that are worthy of resurrection rather than salvage. In these rare cases, customers have chosen to purchase entire barn frames and give them new life as complete structures–preserving not just the materials, but the architecture and craftsmanship of the original build.

The founders of American Barn and Wood, John and Kira Olshefski, experienced this firsthand with a barn discovered in the small town of Conquest, New York. Built in 1840, the barn was carefully dismantled and transported to California’s Central Coast, where it was thoughtfully restored in 2014. After extensive cleaning, repair, reassembly, and finishing–washing, scrubbing, pegging, nailing, sawing, and sanding–the barn once again stands as a historic structure in Atascadero, serving as a lasting tribute to early American craftsmanship.

If you’re interested in resurrecting an entire barn frame, we encourage you to contact American Barnwood early in your planning process. We can work directly with our Midwestern suppliers to help identify and source a structure that aligns with your vision, timeline, and project requirements
